Old and New Songs from Aotearoa and Europe
Friends and frequent collaborators Barbara Paterson (soprano) and Gabriela Glapska (piano) present a concert of luminous art songs from past and present Aotearoa and Europe. This new programme highlights the duo’s gleeful, keen interest in contemporary art music, while staying true to their deep affection for the lush romanticism of 19th century Lieder.

Opera and Art Song Duets

Bruce Greenfield, Piano
Sopranos Barbara and Barbara became fast friends when they were assigned a shared role as Emerging Artists for New Zealand Opera in 2008, under the guidance of renowned pianist Bruce Greenfield. They’ve loved singing together ever since, and they’re delighted to join with Bruce for another “Opera Barbies” concert. This new programme showcases iconic duets from operas like Der Rosenkavalier and Il re pastore, art song duos by Claude Debussy and Léo Delibes, and some of their favourite songs by Francis Poulenc and Sergei Rachmaninov.

The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim is an upcoming anime fantasy film directed by Kenji Kamiyama, with an epic score by renowned Kiwi composer Stephen Gallagher. Featuring a plethora of accomplished Kiwi voice actors and musicians, including Barbara on some soaring vocal lines.
